Party Wall etc Act 1996

Party Wall Act 1996 - This protects your interests if you intend doing work, or will be affected by a development.

This important Act came into force in 1997. For certain building works the owner of a property must serve notice on adjoining owners and agree the method of construction. In very general terms the circumstances are when the owner intends carrying out works to the party wall, e.g. installing a damp proof course, installing a lead flashing, building up to the boundary or wants to excavate for a foundation lower that the foundation or walls of an adjoining building up to 6m away.
